hi guys and gals,

Recently, I read a "confession" (more like a complaint...) about someone not being able to "poof improve" within three years.
They had written over another confession that talked about how someone was able to improve within two-three years because of the internet and deviant art.

Now, I normally don't make journal entries about anything I read on Artist Confessions, but I felt rather compelled to address this one on my own dA, since I've pretty much got myself into the preachy-artist category with my "Why Realism is Important" entry...

First of all, improvement and growth as an artist is different for everyone. Some can improve in days, others in years. It all depends on how much you apply yourself and how far out of your comfort zone you're willing to go. This is something that I'm still learning, and I encourage others to do the same. Trust me, it helps.

Thing is, art is like a child. You have to make it experience certain things and practice it over and over and study it and embrace it to truly be able to do it. You wanna draw magnificent landscapes? Then do it. Practice from life, then from reference and then make shit up as you go along. You wanna learn to draw animals? Same thing. Men? Same thing. Women, children, plants, cars, lamps? Same fucking thing.

Don't expect your work to just magically improve because you said "I wanna improve". You have to work on it.

I honestly believe that when the confessor who talked about the internet helping them improve was talking about how they studied different works and how things are done. This is something I do quite often, which is why I spend so much time on here.

Lastly, how dare you attack another artist because they were able to do in two-three years what you couldn't do in that amount of time. It's not their fault you didn't step out of the box, it's not their fault that you didn't study other styles and whatnot. And even if you did, it's still not their fault that you didn't apply that to your own work.

It's not like they sabotaged your work or train of focus (or lack thereof). They worked, they practiced, they studied, they conquered.

You wanna do that?

Quit your bitchin' and complainin' and just fucking do it!

Sorry if I offended anyone or made anyone feel bad, but I really wish people would stop complaining about how their work isn't "good enough" or that "NOBODY can improve THAT fast". Pssshhhh. Please.
